MWS has been in operation for over a
year. We formed from a group of mature
job- club members who found the similarity of experiences- unique to that of
older workers, an important reality to be dealt with. As our research continued, we found many people over the age of
40 were indeed concerned about the issue of ageism and the declining
availability of job and career opportunities for people… as they became
older. This does not correspond to the
media declared crisis of a huge shortage of skilled workers in the coming
years, yet the facts are in. Our world
is in a conundrum of values: worshipping the youth culture, yet denial of the
reality of aging…and thus, the accompanying values of a long developed skill-base,
foresight bought by wisdom through experience.
Many restructured government and private business departments are
proving that. Now for a new effort, looking at the ageism problem. About time too.
We already
have an answer: Maturity does Work, our Society is here to stay and it is growing. We welcome new members, corporate sponsors,
donors and advertisers. We have enjoyed
a year support and funding from the City of Victoria, community support from
various businesses, including Workstreams, Safeway, Spectrum, Thrifty Foods,
Home Depot, Wal-Mart and the Unity Church to name a few.
Soon we will be launching the Mature Times News, with advertisers supporting the project listing research, articles, advice columns and much more. Thank you Victoria!
